Bob-omb Buddy

This is a Bob-omb Buddy, drawn for Mario Monsters the day before Valentines day, posted there the day of, and submitted here the day after... how appropriate!

These guys aren't actually your enemies. Like, at all. They first appeared in Super Mario 64 as the foes of the dastardly BLACK Bob-ombs, and as it it your goal to get a star from their leader, the pink Bob-omb Buddies will help you but opening up cannons for you after you defeat the Big Bob-omb. Along with a bit of a visual overhaul (like most of the game received), they will also help you find red coins in Super Mario 64 DS by showing you their location on the map screen (conveniently located on the then brand new DS's bottom screen). They do these things for you in just about every level you come across, and they also show up in several other places in the Mario universe, such as in various mini-games, and also in the original Paper Mario with the (assumed) Bob-omb Buddy "Bombette" as a party member.

This is one of the few times in recent memory that I've really just kept things nice and simple, and I should probably aim to do so more often. I originally had much more elaborate plans for this, perhaps having 8 red coins falling in the background, perhaps stacked up in columns, with cannons firing in the background. Instead, I opted to put 8 pink dots in the background.... because..... 8 red coins? IT WORKS, OKAY?
